FAQ 11     What help is available for companies that offers practicums?

Different forms of assistance are available to companies that offer practicums: advisory services, tax incentives, etc. For example:

      Professional support

The success of a work-study project depends on close cooperation between school and company. A resource person at the school is available throughout the company’s participation in the project; this person can provide additional information or advice as needed, or assistance in case of difficulties encountered during the practicum.

      Technical support

The school agrees to provide the company with materials and literature to help with management of the practicum and to promote the achievement of the objectives: documents that provide information or assistance for the supervisor, materials for monitoring and evaluating trainees, etc.

     Financial support

It is important to find out from the school about measures to promote trainee placement and their eligibility conditions. At the moment, there are two tax incentives available to companies that accept trainees in a work-study program based on the following laws:

-       The Refundable Training Tax Credit (RTTC)1

-       The Act to foster development of manpower training (Bill 90)

School work-study program coordinators can give your company information about these two measures.

      Other resources

Other resources are available in addition to those offered by the school, such as the Centre de liaison entreprises-cégeps (CLEC).2 Depending on the type of business or industry, certain associations can also provide assistance: the Comité paritaire du secteur de l’automobile, région Montréal; the Union des producteurs agricoles; the Association des manufacturiers; etc.
