The purpose of the Accounting program is to develop the skills of students so that they can do bookkeeping, that is, more specifically, keep complete sets of journals, account records, enter transactions, balance various accounts, make reconciliations, perform transactions relating to accounts payable and receivable, prepare reports for the management, prepare financial statements for review by a professional accountant, prepare tax forms and their consequent payments, as well as prepare income tax returns. This is a program that is intended for people having no prior knowledge or experience in accounting.

Fonctions de travail

Bookkeepers maintain complete sets of journals, keep records of accounts, verify methods used to record financial transactions, and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual or computerized bookkeeping systems. They post journal entries and reconcile accounts. They prepare trial balances. They also prepare financial statements for professional accountants. They handle accounts receivable and payable, prepare cheques, prepare and process invoices, as well as complete and submit tax forms, assessments and other government documents. They may also prepare regular or ad hoc statistical, financial and accounting reports as required by the business. In addition, they may prepare tax returns and provide other bookkeeping services for individuals and small businesses, for example, as self-employed workers. As employees, they work in both private and public sectors.

Conditions d'admission et préalables

Ministry Admission Conditions (article 4 of the College Education Regulations) :  

A person who has received instruction considered sufficient by the college and meets any of the following conditions may be admitted to a program of studies leading to an Attestation of College Studies:

(1)  the person has interrupted his or her full-time studies or pursued full-time postsecondary studies for at least 2 consecutive terms or 1 school year;
 
(2)  the person is covered by an agreement entered into between the college and an employer or by a government program of studies;
 
(3)  the person has interrupted his or her full-time studies for one term and pursued full-time postsecondary studies for one term; or
 
(4)  the person holds a Secondary School Vocational Diploma.

Particularités et remarques

The training is delivered over two course sessions followed, according to the student's choice, by a 285 hours-long internship or professional integration project.
