The Special Education Techniques AEC program prepares students with the skills and knowledge needed to practice within the profession.
Special Education Technicians work with individuals of all ages who are experiencing adjustment challenges due to emotional, physical, intellectual, social, behavioral, or mental health challenges. The objective is to provide support in adaptation, intervention, and rehabilitation. Special Education Technicians aid their clientele in becoming active members of society.
Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to:
Special Education Technicians observe clients’ attitudes and behaviors to assess the needs, abilities, and lifestyle habits. They work in conjunction with specialists to identify, rate, detect, and evaluate undiagnosed disorders. They are also trained to work in crisis situations. Furthermore, Special Education Technicians may create and update intervention plans or participate in the preparation and updating of these plans as part of multidisciplinary teams addressing the specific needs of individuals facing challenges.
Special Education Technicians are also tasked with applying intervention approaches and techniques, designing or adapting intervention tools, planning and implementing clinical activities for individuals or groups, and documenting their interventions. They work with a team of professionals and, when needed, may work with members of the client's family. They foster a climate of trust to provide the necessary support for rehabilitation or adaptation, using methods that enable individuals in difficulty to learn, acquire new habits, and develop attitudes and behaviors suited to their environment.
