Objectifs du programme

The Nursing program aims to train people to practice the profession of Nursing. Graduates of the Nursing program may practice nursing in Quebec after passing the Order of Nurses of Quebec (OIIQ)licensing exam.

Article 36 of the Nurses Act defines the general field of practice as follows:« The practice of nursing consists in assessing a person's state of health, determining and carrying out of the nursing care and treatment plan, providing nursing and medical care and treatment in order to maintain or restore health and prevent illness, and providing palliative care».

Total length of training includes general training that is common to all programs for 420 hours, general training for this program for 150 hours as well as complementary general training courses for 90 hours.


Duration of training consists of theory and lab work for courses; personal time that the student invests is excluded.

To be admitted to the program, a person must meet the general requirements for admission set out in the College Education Regulations, as well as the following special conditions, where applicable:

Must have passed the following secondary-level course(s):

• Sec. IV EST or SE – Secondary IV Environmental Science and Technology (558404) or Science and the Environment (558402)
• Sec. V Chemistry – Secondary V Chemistry (551504) (1)

Nursing

Les infirmiers et les infirmières surveillent l’état de santé et mettent à jour les dossiers des patients. Elles donnent des soins techniques (pansements, prises de tension, prélèvements, injections, etc.), administrent et ajustent des médicaments sous ordonnance et effectuent des examens et des thérapies selon les prescriptions d’un médecin. Les infirmières peuvent travailler dans différentes unités d’un hôpital (urgence, soins intensifs, santé mentale, périnatalité, pédiatrie, etc.) de jour, de soir et de nuit, ou dans des milieux comme les CLSC et les CHSLD. C’est un métier essentiel très gratifiant qui convient aux personnes empathiques, discrètes et vigilantes. Un emploi comme infirmier ou infirmière demande une excellente condition physique, une bonne capacité d’écoute, le sens de l’initiative et un bon jugement.
